Chiefs' DT Responds After Re-signing With The Team

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs continued to improve — or, in this instance, maintain — their defensive line room. According to his agent, SportsTrust Advisors, who announced the news on its official Twitter account, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi is returning.

Nnadi, 26, is back in Kansas City for the 6th time. In the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected the 6-foot-1, 317-pound defensive lineman from Florida State. Nnadi started all 17 regular-season games and three postseason games in 2022, totaling 25 tackles.

In the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Divisional Round triumph, he reserved his sole sack of the season for Trevor Lawrence. Nnadi has played in 95 games for the club (playoffs and regular season), making 80 starts.

Nnadi in a post on social media, has expressed his feeling after re-signing with the Chiefs. Nandi wrote “I appreciate all the love from both sides😇. #ChiefsKingdom Let’s work ! 🤙🏾”.

Nnadi’s best season came in 2021, when he recorded 38 tackles (21 solo) and 3.0 sacks. Nnadi’s use has increasingly decreased as general manager Brett Veach and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo have bolstered the defensive line rotation throughout the years, falling from 54% of defensive snaps in 2019 to 34% in 2022.

Still, the run-stuffer adds familiar depth to a lineup that includes Chris Jones and Tershawn Wharton.
