Episode 5
©️ Shedrach Baba
The following week,
Moses and the Youth Executives set out for Dotumu village.
On getting to the village, they felt the change in atmosphere,
“I feel suffocated”, Moses loosened his tie.
“This place is absolutely terrifying!”, Favour added.
“I think we should go back, let me call Pastor ”, Moses brought his phone and tried reaching the Pastor.
“Our on earth was this coward made our leader!”,
“He clearly has no experience!”
“This life no balance”(This life isn’t fair)
Kingsley, Olubo and Ugo thought simultaneously.
“Moses, Please calm down, I believe God will see us through”, Ruth reassured Moses.
“Thank you”
They walked to the house assigned to the them and when they were unpacking, they discovered their money grew wings and flew away.
“Iru wahala le leyi bayi”(what sort of problem is this!), Moses grumbled internally.
“Just great our money is missing, how are going to survive?”, Kingsley complained.
“Do you mean to tell me the two hundred thousand naira given to us by the Church just disappeared into air?!”, Joshua asked clearly frustrated.
“Our else do you explain it, we agreed on keeping the money inside this bag and now…
Ruth opened the bag and all they could see inside the bag was paper.
“Are you sure the Church didn’t make a mistake?,”
“Yes, maybe they gave us the bag meant for drama department, you never can tell, mistakes do happen”, Olubo added because back in church the drama department used paper cut in the shape of money for their ministration, so he had a point.
“We all clearly saw the money Ugo, we all guarded the bag”, Favour was absolutely sure the money disappeared in the village.
“Guys, I have just Four thousand naira in my account, at least that will suffice for now,” Moses showed his account balance.
Days past, the youths were trying to manage the Foodstuffs so it can last longer, and they could envision days of Marathon fasting ahead.
Also, the villagers were the most unfriendly set of people they’ve ever encountered, they avoided the youths like plagues except in the market place where they got stuffs from.
“why did we agree to coming to this place”, Olubo complained to his friends.
“I should have gone home”, Ugo sighed.
What the trio thought was going to be a walk in the park, turned out to be an herculean task.
“Now food is barely enough, I cannot bear this any more”, Just on cue, Kingsley stomach grumbled.
“Let call Pastor”, Ugo suggested.
“Which Pastor?, the Pastor that sent us here!”, Olubo sneered.
“Not that old man, I am talking about Pastor Segun”, Ugo replied.
“You are right, due to the underlying issue between them, Pastor Segun will want to again oppose his decision”
“Hmm, Smart”, Olubo gave a thumbs up.
“When should we call him”, Kingsley asked.
“Now”, Olubo dialed his number.
Pastor Segun is a Pastor under Pastor Samuel, who was very submissive but it all changed when he started listening to gossips by some people in the Church which poisoned his heart and he changed entirely.
So Pastor Segun started developing his own faction, which of course, Olubo, Ugo and Kingsley were part of.
~~~
“I don’t know what has gotten to Kingsley, Ugo and Olubo, they have somehow changed”, Favour said as they were on their way to the stream to fetch water.
“I also noticed, they don’t want to help out at all” Ruth complained.
“Maybe it is the change in atmosphere, how was the evangelism yesterday?”, Moses changed the topic.
“Glory to Jesus, but Papa, this people heart are strong, they don’t want to even hear us out”, Joshua replied.
“I also noticed they are no Christians only idol worshippers”, Ruth shared her observation.
“Papa, why didn’t you follow us?”, Favour asked.
Everyone except Moses went for evangelism.
“I was, I was….
“I understand, but tomorrow we are going again, make sure to follow us”, Ruth said knowing fully well why Moses didn’t follow them.
They fetched the water and left the stream.
A week later, Pastor Segun arrived in Dotumu village.
“Good afternoon, Pastor Segun, what a pleasant surprise, Moses was visible happy in seeing Pastor Segun and of course, the Foodstuffs he brought.
“Good afternoon Moses, can you please help me take this to the house?”
“Sure”
Moses carried the yams while the others also joined him.
“I was sent to the village by the Church and Moses, you must be a man”, Pastor Segun sighed.
Moses had a bad premonition.
