“HARROWING MEMORIES 2”
Sonteeβs Pov
I felt like a remorseful person who knew what they had done was wrong and could have made amends straight away. But, if you ask me, that wasn’t me. It was like adding fuel to the fire that very day I found out my father and mother were talking about me through my gossips, regarding my ostracism behavior. From the looks and sounds of him that day, it seemed like he was badmouthing me, and I wondered what gut he had to talk about me? When I turned 15, the racism within the family became worse. I didn’t want to have eye contact with my father or even my brother; goodwill was lost. Since I was the target of racism in the house, we became enemies. I disowned them as my family and treated them like they never existed. To me, they were nothing but invisible people
Furthermore, I quarreled with those outdoors who proclaimed ‘Henry Smith’ and ‘Goodwill Smith’ as my family, saying things like “your brother is calling you”. The word “brother” vexed me, causing me to start intense arguments frequently. If there wasn’t a quarrel, grudges would emerge from the situation, leading to lost friendships. Indeed, the debate about my racism towards black people made me lose friendships and relationships. The worst part was that I never felt remorseful about what I was exploring back then. Instead, it triggered me to distance myself from any friendship or relationship and become even meaner. I was solitary on my own and enjoyed my peace that way, without any remorse.
Despite my resentment towards my father, he never disowned me as his daughter, nor did he reciprocate my resentment. Instead, he was a man of benevolence. My brother Goodwill, on the other hand, was nice, gentle, and cordial. In fact, as much as I hate to admit it, he was the sweetest soul I have ever encountered. Nevertheless, this didn’t change my opinion about them. All their efforts to win my heart were in vain. Whenever I wanted something, I only involved my mother, keeping it between us. I couldn’t tell if anyone else found out later, but as long as it wasn’t confronted directly, it didn’t cause any issues.
Considering my African father, the racism that emerged within the family would have warranted punishments and cautions back then. I’ve heard that African parents often condone discipline, so I suspect that they would have taken prompt action to correct my ostracism attitudes. If I had exhibited such behavior in Africa, I would have faced consequences, perhaps even physical discipline like three to six slaps or lashes. This would have reset my senses and taught me a lesson, helping me to learn from my mistakes and move forward.
But after I was born, my parents resided here in Canada. They lived in Nigeria with Goodwill before I was born. I was bred in Canada and spent most of my life growing up here. So, when it comes to great discipline, it’s no comparison to the African style, except for those who have a jail wish here overseas. It’s far off from the Africans. What freaked me out the most when I was still 15 was how my interracial parents ended up together. My mother revealed the plot when I asked about it, but I didn’t believe it at first because I thought it might be a rumor. It wasn’t until she confirmed it as the truth that I accepted it.
One noon, my mother and I were in the guest parlor chatting about relationships and marriage. Meanwhile, my father and brother were training at the boxing gym center elsewhere in the house, which I didn’t care about. I clung to my mother like she was a diamond and listened intently to the topic. She shared advice and insights about the good and bad sides of relationships and what makes a good mother. Then, she mentioned her own relationship with my father, revealing that he was once her personal bodyguard. She talked about how fierce he was in that role, which I found outrageous and annoying that day. After our conversation, I felt dejected and angry. My mother concluded that their marriage was fate, which freaked me out even more. I wondered what kind of fate brings a bodyguard and their boss together as couples? To me, it was crazy, but their marriage attracted fame as the first bodyguard to marry their boss, which still amazes people today. Some still believe it’s just a rumor
As it’s often said, ‘whatever you sow, you shall reap,’ either for good or bad, it’s waiting at the door. When I turned 21, I was regretful and dejected. But then I encountered a motivational speaker named JΓ£y Shetti, who changed my life and attitude. After watching one of his captivating videos, I was done with my ostracism and racialism. He shared a powerful message about how children should adore their parents while they’re still alive, so they don’t regret it later in life. His words touched my heart, and I felt stuck in remorse for being blinded by hatred towards my father’s color, which was beautiful. I sorrowed in solitude at night, feeling remorseful and hungry for my father’s forgiveness, as well as my older brother Goodwill’s. Thinking my family was asleep, I decided to wait until the next day to apologize. We had planned a tour to Nigeria, which my parents had agreed to a week earlier, leaving Canada to create wonderful moments. As the racialist in the family, I wasn’t interested, feeling it was stupid to mix with the blacks there.
Aside from that, history spoke of how torrid the climate in Nigeria was and how the society was filled with deadly insects. I was left with no choice but to agree to the trip, but I made up my mind to protect myself from those plagues in Nigeria. However, the trip got canceled the next day and was postponed to the third day of the month by my parents for a reason. We decided to spend the day out nicely, hanging out together for an awesome shopping experience and other exhilarating things. This was our last moment in Canada before our tour to Nigeria, but it didn’t mean we were relocating from Canada. We just wanted to enjoy ourselves to our satisfaction before the trip. Despite the fun, I couldn’t bring myself to admonish my father and brother because I didn’t know how to express myself to them. I was deeply emotional, feeling guilty about my past discrimination, and tense at the same time. To have a clear mind, I felt like I needed to unburden myself. So, I planned to admonish them after our outing, but it took longer than expected. Darkness fell upon us.
Around 8 p.m. that night, my mother, Esthar, was driving us home through a mountain pass after our long, amazing hangout. I sat in the passenger seat next to her, while my father and brother sat in the back seat. The three of them were chatting like they would never run out of conversation, and their chatter was followed by laughter. However, after my mother answered an incoming call while driving, only the men continued talking. Fortunately, she had earbuds plugged in, allowing her to focus on steering. As for me, my mind wandered off to the admonishment I planned to give the men. Suddenly, a big truck sped out of nowhere and hit our car with great force, targeting the side where my mother was sitting and driving. The impact sent chills down my spine, but before anything else could happen, our car was flipped out of the way by the truck’s force.
Downwardly, the car wobbled from the mountain pass onto the rocks. For minutes, it wobbled from one rock to another, causing parts of the car to crash and disperse into mid-air due to the wobbling force. I couldn’t recall what happened after the car accident. Miraculously, I woke up fortnight later, having dwelled in a coma, only to find myself on the hospital bed in a very bad state. I received the nasty news about my family – they didn’t make it from the horrible accident. I was the only survivor, but due to the accident, I had a dislocated arm and legs with whiplash. Days and nights, I couldn’t help but mourn my lost family in such a critical state, with the nasty thought that I could have also lost my life.
Without my family, I felt like a miserable person. A few days after the accident, my uncle, Kevin Macpherson, and his family came to pick me up from the hospital after they found out about my parents’ and brother’s demise. The family was also mourning. Kevin Macpherson was my mother’s only older brother, married to a black South African woman, and blessed with two boys, Trevor and Treasure. They lived in Canada, Ontario. The family opened their arms and took me in, treating me so well, especially Elna, my uncle’s spouse. She was a kind and amiable woman. The boys were nice and friendly towards me, never failing to make me feel accompanied and lively. You couldn’t be around them without smiling or laughing daily. I was only two years older than them, and we got along well.
Despite all their affection towards me, it didn’t take me out of my melancholic life. I couldn’t forgive myself for what I did to my father and brother. From then on, I began to regret all my actions. Nevertheless, for a year, I was in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk with my legs nor move them. All my efforts to walk again during that year were in vain. It wasn’t just dislocation; I suffered traumatic stress. However, during that year, Elna showed me immense affection and care. She was always there for me, without any pretenses. I got whatever I wanted, not because we lived in wealth and riches, but not everything I had was like what my parents did for me when they were alive.
On the sixth month of the second year, 2024, I discovered that my legs had miraculously healed, and I could walk again. I was overjoyed and exhilarated, and I couldn’t express my happiness in words. I had to pace around the house where I had lived for two and a half years for the first time in my life. My uncle and his family were also thrilled for me, especially Elna, who had cared for me deeply. We celebrated my good fortune that day. However, one year later, in the month of Easter, we were robbed. I was helping my aunt peel fruit in the dining room when some robbers barged into the house without masks, demanding a huge ransom of money with a fierce threat if we denied them. It was dusk, and while the leader made his demands, others spilled diesel inside the house. I knew it was a cover-up to make it look like a fire outbreak instead of a robbery. I could have tried to stop them, but the sight of the gun was enough to make me retreat. To avoid endangering our lives, my uncle gave in to their demands. Despite this, the ungrateful thieves shot each of us.
Fortunately, I wasn’t among the family members who were killed. Unknown to the robbers, they missed me because I wasn’t shot. I feigned death, pretending to be a dead lady. As soon as they shot my family, they set the house ablaze and scrammed. I was devastated, finding out that the loving family who had showered me with affection had died miserably. All my efforts to wake them were in vain. I mourned the loss of this loving family, surrounded by their pool of blood amidst the consuming house fire. Before I got engulfed by the spreading flames, I managed to escape the burning house, unaware that I still had the knife with me. I had been using it to peel fruit before the robbers invaded. Grievously, I was so lost in thought that I didn’t realize I still had the knife, and the worst part was that blood was stained on the edge of the knife.
As soon as I exited the house, six cops raided into the compound, glued to their guns, and aimed at me. That’s where the adversity began in my life. The cops apprehended me as soon as they saw me with the knife, which I had not used to commit any offense. The cops thought I had committed murder with the knife they found with me. All my efforts to defend myself from being apprehended were in vain. In fact, it was a waste of time because the cops didn’t give me a second thought. Instantly, I was handcuffed, apprehended, and thrown into their vehicle. While I was kept in the vehicle, the fire brigades worked on putting out the fire that had consumed the house, and the cadavers of my family members were taken out of the building as soon as possible. They looked no different from some roasted fishes. My heart prickled at the sight, and my eyes welled up. I couldn’t hold back my tears.
After they were carried out, a skinny cop walked to where I was locked in the car and used their deaths against me, accusing me of murdering them. He even went further by muttering that I had set them ablaze, which was a crime I never committed. But words couldn’t be expressed. All I could do was weep in silence, wondering why all this was happening to me. Well, any other person might have done the same as the cops had done, not after being caught with a knife stained with blood. It could be extra thoughtful, but at least they should have used a little reasoning.
Nonetheless, the cops drove straight to the police station along with me. During the moment I was in their car, for some reasons, one thing that kept rewinding in my head was how to overcome the misfortune that had befallen me. Firstly, I was defenseless. Secondly, I had no family and friends to defend me against my misfortune, not even a single lawyer I knew. Thirdly, my truthfulness to the cops was a waste. So, there was a 99.9% chance that I could be thrown into a cell, which was the worst of all. As I battled with my feelings emotionally, noticeably, one of the cops sitting next to the driver in the front seat feasted his eyes on me. Specifically, it was the slim cop who had announced me as a murderer.
Fearlessly, I frowned at him in silence. After staring to his satisfaction, the bastard took his eyes off me and shared some words with his partner by whispering in each other’s ear, God knows what. Chuckles followed after that between them. In a matter of seconds, the car rolled out of the row of other cops’ cars and headed in another direction, unnoticeably, since it was the last one in the row. But that got a stout cop sitting next to me to blurt out with a look askance. All I could do was look at my sideways in the same silence.
Cop 3: Where the hell are you headed? And slow down, you’re going too fast!
.
Cop 1: (driving recklessly) Man, relax..
.
Cop 3: Don’t tell me to relax! I need to know what’s going on. What the heck is happening?
.
Cop 2: (sighs and looks at him) Ah, you disappoint me with that question. I’m shocked you’ve forgotten the game so quickly
.
Cop 3: Don’t play dumb, I just want to know. What game are you talking about?
.
Cop 2: Okay, let me ask you something. When was the last time you had hanky panky, uh?
.
Cop 3: Ohhh!!! Well, it’s been two weeks… I’ve been too busy to think about that. You bitches… So, this is what it’s all been about? (smirking)
.
Cop 1: (chuckles) Hahaha! What did you think it was about, then?
.
Cop 3: But we’re on duty, remember?
.
Cop 1: Cut the act! We’ve done this before. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise to you anymore, should it?
.
Cop 2: You’re never irrelevant, homie! (takes a swig from a small bottle of whisky)
.
Cop 3: Alright, who’s the stunning beauty this time around?
.
Cop 2: Find out yourself. (glances at Sontee before looking ahead)
.
Cop 3: I can’t wait, man. A fresh poony will be welcoming our cocks soon.
.
Cop 1: Bad b-tch.
I didn’t listen to their discussion nor paid any rapt attention to them as my mind wandered off. For some minutes, the cops kept driving through the darkness and finally, it came to a pause at a solitary and dusky place. The place was absent of cars and passengers, which made me wonder, but for some reasons, I also felt it could be a golden chance to escape from the shackles of the cops. It wasn’t carried out so soon. I was patient to know what was going to happen next. As soon as the car was halted, to my utmost surprise, I was pinioned by one of the cops, and for a minute, I was frogmarched into a dark corner. Before my movement with the cop, I heard the two other cops blurt at each other, but then, it faded.
Cop 3: Psst, don’t tell me she’s the stunning beauty, is she?
.
Cop 2: Why don’t you go get to know what she taste beneaths her compass and see if she’s the one?
.
Cops 3: (whispers sneeringly) Bad-ss! Well, she is not bad of a girl at all. Man, how will it feel to massages the bodacious heart butt cheeks of her?. What a young twat. I bet she is still virginal. It is so bad her future groom wonβt be going down there anymore.
.
Cop 2: Enough, let’s wrap this up quickly. We’re running out of time
.
Cop 3: Hold on, just a sec. There’s something I need to show you.
.
Cop 2: Look, you can show me later, okay?
.
Cop 3: Relax, man. Trust me, this is important and now is the perfect time to show you
.
Cop 2: (sighs) Alright, fine! What is it? Make it quick
As soon as we arrived at the corner with the only cop, I was ordered to kneel with a gun stuck to my head. I did as I was ordered, but at that moment, I was curious to know what we were doing there. Both suspicion and trepidation gripped me, but I couldn’t ask. One thing that kept ringing in my heart was how to escape, knowing it was awkward because I had second thoughts about my plan. Even if I had to escape that miserable night, I needed to be freed from the handcuffs strapped around my wrists. But then, an idea emanated, and I swiftly comprehended where the situation was leading to – either I was taken there to be slain or sexually assaulted. One of the options came to pass when the only cop present with me began to loosen his belt. At first, I thought he needed to pee, but then he pulled his trousers down a little, revealing his small manhood, which was stuck in his underwear and stood in front of me. Annoyingly and disgustingly, I asked him.
Sontee: What do you think you are doing?
.
Cop 2: Oh darling, you really wanna know? But you know what? You’ll know the answer soon, after I’ve gotten my way into your lady garden beneath your legs.
.
Sontee: So, this is it. I’m shocked that many citizens have been deceived by the uniforms you wear. People look up to you as protectors of the country, preventing crimes. But the truth is, you and your colleagues are the exact opposite – wolves in sheep’s clothing, perpetrators of crime
.
Cop 2: You dare speak to me like that? (he slammed his hand across her nose and clenched her hair tight) Bitch, you think you can talk to me like that? After I’m done with you, you’ll learn some respect.
.
Sontee: (nosebleed) What else can you do than to plug your 3 inch tiny cock inside me? (spits at his face)
Angered by my words, he bashed me across the face and struck my stomach hard with his knee. I fell to the ground in anguish, coughing. I thought it was going to end there, but it didn’t. As if that wasn’t enough, he continued to bash me on the chest and stomach without a care in the world. Words couldn’t express the excruciating pain I felt intensely, all because I reckoned what was right. I couldn’t believe that the ones who were supposed to keep the law and order and support crime prevention were the ones breaking the law and mastering crime..
After bashing me to his satisfaction, he spat on me and glared sneeringly before falling to his knees, scratching his lower region. With that position, I knew he was ready to sexually assault me. I clasped my thighs together to prevent him from doing so, thinking that even if I had to be sexually assaulted, I couldn’t let the bastard take my virginity with his small manhood because I was still virginal. But the cop wasn’t ready to back off; he was so opinionated and wild enough to spread my clasped thighs, and I was no match for him. He mounted me between my thighs and began to smash my face and neck with kisses hungrily and roughly, to the extent that he tried to force his tongue into my mouth.
Unfortunately, I clipped his upper and lower lips and bit them so hard for some seconds, making sure he was in excruciating pain, that I could even taste his blood. All he could do was jerk and pop his eyes like a goat being slaughtered. After biting him to my satisfaction, I headbutted him on the nose hard. He staggered up, clutching his nose and mouth in silent agony, and didn’t have time to give me a taste of my own medicine. Manageably, I rose and watched as he lurched aimlessly in anguish for a while. As if that wasn’t bad enough, I bashed him on the groin hard with my foot, without missing my target. The bastard cop pop-eyed and leaped thrice, clutching onto his struck manhood, with his face hung low, before bringing him down finally with a front sweeping kick. I might be handcuffed, but I didn’t lack any of my fighting skills.
After conquering him, I managed to surmount the situation by taking the key to unlock the handcuffs strapped on my wrists and threw it away before departing into the night. Shortly after my departure, I heard indecipherable conversation and a gunshot from where I had escaped, with the sense that the cop must have been shot because of my evasion. Then, I increased my pace with good agility because it was going to be a hot chase after my evasion. Minutes later, the siren of the cop car began to echo from afar, with a sensation that it was coming towards my direction. Instantly and watchfully, I holed up at a dark corner until their car was out of sight and no longer heard. I palmed my chest and released a consumed air out of me. Words could not be expressed of how glad and peaceful I was after the police departure.
Though I knew the game wasn’t over yet because the police won’t give up until I’m apprehended again, I couldn’t wait to face the punishment for a crime I never committed. I wondered what I was going to do to escape my misfortune. I had lost the ones I cherished and adored so much. I couldn’t control tearing up, not after recalling all that. My eyes welled up, and I broke into tears as every last moment spent with my family played in my head like a movie. They rewound in my memory, causing excruciating pain in my heart. As if that wasn’t bad enough, I was afraid the easy and affluent life I was living could never continue anymore now that I’m left solitary in my darkest hour. Speaking of that, it didn’t cause much anxiety. Initially, one is 100% responsible for their own life. No one will do that for anyone. After all, good things pass away, and nothing lasts forever. Besides, I was twenty-three (23) and no longer a kid. As long as there is still life, there is hope for me.
After tearing up for an hour, I braced myself and exited into the night with the mindset of traveling back to Toronto because as long as I was still in the state of Ontario, I might not have another chance for a second evasion, so it was easier said than done. After all, it wasn’t my state of upbringing. Besides, I am a novice when it comes to the long description of the state. Although I lived there with my uncle and family during the years after the unfortunate incident that happened, all I did was go for workouts and got myself trained at a nearby gym, just for self-defense. Lastly, I assisted my aunt at home. Keeping company was never done in the city; the family were my only company.
As I felt, as long as I’m in my territory, I wasn’t safe in Ontario either. The driving distance between Ontario and Toronto is approximately 3,997 km, which takes around 39 hours and 10 minutes by car. Train or shuttles were better options for me. So, I gave it a deep thought because I was broke and scruffy at that moment. But fate never fails to intervene.
As I walked through the solitary night, lost in self-consciousness, I bumped into and nearly got hit by a newly glistening Hummer truck. Miffed by the reckless driving, I didn’t squander time lashing out at the driver when I knew the fault was mine, and I flounced off. But the call of my name put a halt to my hasty movement and grabbed my attention. To my utmost astonishment, it was my male classmate, Max Freddie, who nearly crushed me to death. He was the son of a former prime minister of the state. He was my first and last ex back in high school days. One reason I broke up with him was that his eyes never stayed on one place. He was flirtatious with girls a lot, to the extent that he got three of my classmates pregnant at once, which made them drop out of high school. I didn’t give a damn pity on those girls because they were gold diggers with A1 pride who were just after his money due to Max’s background.
Long story short, Max is now a father of several kids. The coincidence of running into him that night was a whirlwind of surprises, as he had matured significantly since our high school days. However, everything changed for me after that chance encounter, which came with no ulterior motives. Firstly, he took me to a nearby boutique and bought me some beautiful dresses. Secondly, he booked a luxurious hotel room for me to stay in for the night, ensuring I was comfortable without spending a dime. Thirdly, he deposited a substantial amount of money into my account and even arranged for a car to take me to the train station for my journey to Ontario. These kindnesses came after I shared my predicament with him, and it’s been a few months since then.
